When Grief Hits Home
This past week has left me heavy-hearted and restless. My prayers have been constant, my mind racing, my spirit aching. Like many of you, I have watched tragedy unfold before our very eyes, but the loss of Charlie Kirk has struck me to my core.
My heart breaks for Mrs. Kirk and her two daughters as they step into a valley they never expected to walk. They didn’t lose Charlie because of an accident or some foolish choice. They lost him because his voice — his convictions — his boldness — became too much for someone to tolerate. He was silenced, not by debate, but by violence.
That reality should stop us in our tracks.
Honoring a Man Who Refused to Back Down
Charlie was more than a commentator or a cultural voice. He was someone who stood boldly for truth, who refused to bow to pressure, who taught a generation that courage was still possible.
He changed the way I speak. He changed the way I engage with people. He challenged me to be courageous where I might have stayed silent.
So today, this blog post is my way of saying, “Thank you, Charlie.”
Your race is over. You have entered into the presence of the Father you served. Like Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7, “You have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.”
Your watch is over. But ours is not.
Recognizing the Battlefield We’re In
We cannot ignore the truth: we are living in a divided, hostile world. Party against party. Neighbor against neighbor. Truth against deception.
But this is bigger than politics. Bigger than culture wars. Scripture reminds us in Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
This is spiritual war. And in a war, silence is not an option — it’s surrender.
The Call to Holy Boldness
Jesus told His followers, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). Light is not passive. Light pushes back darkness. Light shows the way.
Proverbs 28:1 reminds us, “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.”
We are called to be lions. Not loud for the sake of noise. Not hateful or cruel. But unshakably, unmistakably bold. Speaking with grace, clarity, and conviction — not hiding the truth God has given us.
Equipping Ourselves for the Fight
Paul urges us in Ephesians 6:13–17 to “put on the full armor of God” — the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.
This is not symbolic fluff. It is a reminder that we must be spiritually and mentally equipped. Truth must be our anchor. Righteousness must guard our hearts. Faith must shield us from fear. The Word of God must be our weapon.
Practical Action Steps
It’s one thing to feel inspired. It’s another to act. Here are practical ways we can carry the baton forward:
Speak Truth Boldly, but Lovingly. (Colossians 4:6) Train yourself to answer with grace and confidence. Be Present in the World. Don’t retreat into silence or apathy. Be the light in your community, workplace, and conversations. Equip Yourself Spiritually. Read Scripture daily, pray consistently, and surround yourself with believers who challenge you to grow. Engage in Gentle Debate. 1 Peter 3:15 calls us to “always be prepared to give an answer… but do this with gentleness and respect.” Learn to disagree without dehumanizing others. Push Back Against Fear. Fear is the enemy’s favorite weapon. Remember, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11).
The Final Word
Charlie may no longer be with us, but his message is not gone. If anything, his passing should wake us up. The cost of silence is too high.
When we finish our race, may we too hear those words from Matthew 25:23: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
The baton has been passed. The question is — will you take it?
