đź§ The Trap of Comfort
My whole life, I’ve worn different hats.
I’ve served in the church.
I’ve served in the military.
I’ve had seasons of deep connection with God—and seasons where I was running as far from Him as I could.
But through all of it, one thing stayed the same:
I lived in my comfort zone.
Even when I thought I was being bold, even when I felt like I was “doing enough,” I was really just pacing inside a tidy, familiar box. You know the saying: “Think outside the box.” That box? It was my safe place. My box held my beliefs, my preferences, my routine—and most dangerously, my limits.
And the hard truth is, I rarely stepped outside of it.
đź’ˇ The Wake-Up Call
In the last two years, as my relationship with God deepened and my faith matured, I had a moment of clarity:
I wasn’t just limiting myself—I was limiting God.
I was picking and choosing the parts of obedience I was comfortable with. I was avoiding the uncomfortable, the inconvenient, the unfamiliar.
But Jesus didn’t die so I could play it safe.
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Comfort is not the goal.
Obedience is.
đźš« What Comfort Really Costs
Staying in your comfort zone doesn’t just make your life small—it makes your calling smaller.
It boxes in what you’re willing to do for God, and boxes out what He’s trying to do through you.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”

But how can we reach nations if we won’t even reach across the table?
When you stay comfortable, you risk becoming complacent.
And complacency is spiritual quicksand.
“Woe to those who are at ease in Zion…”
— Amos 6:1 (ESV)
🙌 Called to More
We are not called to comfort.
We are called to carry the cross. To follow Jesus into the unknown. To say “yes” before we know the details.
Because He doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called.
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power at work within us…”
— Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)
But that power only activates when we move.
⚠️ A Challenge for You
Ask yourself this honestly:
What area of my life is still locked in the box? Where am I saying “no” to God just because it’s uncomfortable? What am I willing to do—even if it scares me?
This week, take one step outside your comfort zone.
âś… Start that conversation.
âś… Pray that bold prayer.
✅ Volunteer where it’s messy.
âś… Forgive that person.
âś… Do the thing that makes your knees shake.
Because outside your comfort zone is where your calling gets loud.
