Perseverance in the Valley: Don’t Stop Now

When you’re worn down, stretched thin, and feel like giving up—God is still working, still speaking, and still leading you forward.

Every day brings new challenges.

Some encourage us. Some test us. And some straight-up try to knock the breath out of our lungs. After a while, it becomes natural to feel overwhelmed… to want to stop trying. To ask, “What’s the point?”

I know that feeling because I’ve been there—more than once. Times when I’ve worked hard to do the right thing. Times when I’ve tried my best to walk the straight and narrow. And yet, despite all that effort, I still felt defeated. Still felt stuck. Still felt like giving up.

But I’m realizing something God has been trying to teach me in those moments: the importance of perseverance.

God dropped a single word on my heart: “Perseverance.”

It came to me one night when I was deep in the valley. I had just started a new job—an answer to prayer, a long-awaited breakthrough. It finally gave me the ability to provide for my family in a way I hadn’t been able to before. For the first time, my wife didn’t need to work. That should’ve felt like a win.

But instead of celebrating, I was wrestling. Wrestling with guilt that it hadn’t happened sooner. Beating myself up over the years of waiting and trying and failing.

And that’s when the Lord spoke that word to me—perseverance—and I knew it wasn’t just for me. It was for anyone who’s been in the fight for a long time and is wondering if it’s still worth it.

Perseverance isn’t automatic—it’s developed.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

– James 1:2–4

This verse doesn’t hide the fact that we’re going to go through trials. But it flips the script—it tells us that these trials are the training ground for growth. Perseverance is not something you’re born with. It’s something you build through pressure. Through pain. Through the process.

“Today’s problems are tomorrow’s lessons.”
Let that sink in. The things you’re struggling through today could be the very tools God uses to prepare you for what’s next.

There’s a harvest coming—if you don’t give up.

“Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

– Galatians 6:9

This verse hit me right between the eyes. For two years I fought hard to reach a place of stability for my family. There were countless moments I wanted to quit. But I didn’t. And when I read this verse, it felt like a personal reminder that God does reward the faithful—in His time, not mine.

Perseverance is the path to the promise.

“You need to persevere, so that when you have done the will of God,
you will receive what he has promised.”

– Hebrews 10:36

This Scripture doesn’t just suggest perseverance—it says, “You need to.” Why? Because doing God’s will is only half the equation. The other half is finishing the race. Pressing through when it would be easier to stop. Trusting that the promise is still coming—even when it feels far away.

God rewards those who endure.

As parents, we know the joy of watching our children push through something difficult and come out the other side. We’re proud. We celebrate. We reward them—not because they were perfect, but because they didn’t give up.

God sees us the same way.
When we fight through the valley, when we stay faithful even when it hurts—He is proud of us.
And He doesn’t just keep it to Himself. He wants the world to see what He’s doing in you.

So, what now?

If you’re tired of pushing…
If you’re discouraged and on the edge of quitting…
If your prayers feel unanswered, your strength is low, and your hope is slipping…

This is your moment.

Don’t stop here. Don’t let the valley define your story—let it refine your faith.

“You may not feel strong, but God doesn’t need your strength—He just needs your yes.”

Here’s what I want to challenge you with today:

  • Keep walking. One small, faithful step at a time.
  • Keep praying. Even when you’re not sure what to say.
  • Keep believing. Even if your belief feels fragile.
  • Keep doing good. Even if nobody sees it right now.

Let God use this season to build something in you that can’t be built any other way.

“At the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9

You’ve already come so far.
Don’t stop now. God’s not finished yet.
