Out of Alignment, Out of Strength

As I was watching some Facebook reels today I came across a physical trainer/martial artist showing this test of strength and it hit me at that moment with what I am about to share with you now.

Here’s a simple, yet powerful physical demonstration to illustrate this truth: Ask someone to stand upright with their head aligned—facing forward and straight—and extend their arms out to the sides like a “T.” Now, try to push their arms down. You’ll notice that it’s either very difficult or almost impossible, depending on the person’s physical strength and posture. Their core is engaged, their balance is centered, and their muscles work together to resist your effort.

Now, perform the same test again, but this time, have them tilt their head noticeably to one side before extending their arms. When you attempt to push their arms down now, you’ll find it takes far less effort. Their resistance is weakened. Their balance is off. Their body, though only slightly altered in posture, no longer functions at full strength.

Why? Because when the head is out of alignment, the entire body becomes compromised. What once stood strong is now vulnerable.

This simple test reveals a profound spiritual parallel. Just as the physical body loses its strength when the head is not properly aligned, so too does our spiritual life weaken when we, as men, fall out of alignment with God.

Scripture teaches us that husbands are called to be the head of the household—not in a domineering way, but in a servant-leadership role modeled after Christ. As spiritual heads, we are entrusted with the well-being of our families—not just in terms of physical protection, but in providing spiritual covering and guidance as well.

To fulfill that role, we must stay aligned with our Heavenly Father. We must be rooted in the Word, steadfast in prayer, and clothed daily in the full armor of God—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). This alignment is what gives us strength. It equips us to stand firm when spiritual battles come—when the enemy tries to pull us down and tear apart our homes.

But when we neglect our relationship with God… when we drift from prayer, stop seeking His presence, or compromise on truth… we tilt. We may not even realize it at first. But that misalignment—just like the tilt of the head in the physical test—weakens our stance. Our ability to lead, protect, and cover our families spiritually becomes greatly diminished. We become more susceptible to attack, and so do those under our care.

Men of God, we must stay in alignment. Our strength does not come from our own ability, but from our connection to the One who is our strength. When we walk closely with the Lord, we can stand strong—arms outstretched, unwavering—no matter what tries to come against us or our families.

Let us not take lightly the calling to be heads of our households. Instead, let us strive daily to walk in alignment with the Lord, so that through Him, we remain strong, unshakable, and ready to defend those entrusted to our care.
