“Single as a Pringle? Not Quite—You’re Never Alone in Christ”

I know what you’re thinking—what in the world does that title mean? “I’m not dating anyone, I’m single as a Pringle!” But as Valentine’s Day approaches, I want to challenge your perspective on singleness. What if I told you that as a child of God, you are never truly alone? What if being “single” isn’t what you think it is?

Whether you’re a young adult or someone a little further along in life, the feeling of loneliness can be real. The desire to share life with someone, to give and receive love, is natural. God created us for relationship (Genesis 2:18), and it’s understandable to long for a partner to walk through life with. But when we focus solely on finding “the one,” we risk missing the deeper relationship that God has already called us into—the one with Him.

A Love Greater Than Any Earthly Relationship

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we enter into the most important relationship we will ever have. This love is deeper, purer, and more fulfilling than anything another human could provide.

James 4:8 reminds us, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” This verse speaks of intimacy—just like in any relationship, closeness with God requires effort and intention. The more we seek Him, the closer He becomes to us.

Jesus Himself promises in John 14:23, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” Think about that: God, the Creator of the universe, desires to dwell with you, to make His home in your heart. Isn’t that the very essence of what we long for in a relationship—closeness, security, and a sense of belonging?

Preparing for Earthly Love by Strengthening Your Heavenly Relationship

Rather than seeing singleness as a waiting period, view it as an opportunity to deepen your foundation in Christ. A house built on a weak foundation will crumble under pressure, but one built on solid ground will stand firm (Matthew 7:24-27). Your relationship with God is the bedrock upon which everything else—including future relationships—should be built.

Use this season to grow in faith, serve others, and develop the character qualities that will make you not just a good spouse someday, but a devoted follower of Christ today. When the time comes, your future relationship will be stronger because it is built on the right foundation.

A Call to Action: Build Your Home with God

So, where do you stand today? Have you built your home with God? Have you drawn near to Him, allowing Him to fill the spaces of your heart that long for companionship?

Instead of spending this Valentine’s Day feeling “single as a Pringle,” shift your focus. Invest in your relationship with the One who loves you perfectly, unconditionally, and eternally. Pray, worship, study His Word, and trust that in His perfect timing, He will bring the right person into your life. But even before that happens, you are already cherished, already chosen, and already deeply loved.

Take time today to reflect: How firm is your foundation in Christ? What steps can you take to strengthen your relationship with Him? Your future begins now—make sure it’s built on the Rock that will never fail.
