Have you ever spent time around young children—those between infancy and ten years old? If so, you’ve probably noticed that they can’t do everything on their own. They rely on their parents for food, guidance, protection, and help with things they don’t yet understand.
From the earliest stages—when a baby needs to be fed and changed—to childhood, when kids need help with school, friendships, and life lessons, they depend on someone greater than themselves. This is a perfect reflection of our spiritual journey.
As Christians, we start as spiritual infants, learning and growing in our relationship with God. Over time, we mature in faith and understanding, yet throughout Scripture, we are never called “adults of God”—only children of God. Have you ever wondered why?
The answer is both simple and profound. God calls us His children not because we are immature, but because He is our ultimate Provider. Just as a loving parent meets their child’s needs, protects them, and guides them, God desires for us to rely on Him completely.
God’s Grace and Protection
Beyond provision, God’s role as our Heavenly Father includes His grace and mercy. Think back to your childhood. When you made mistakes, your parents corrected you, but they also protected you from dangers you weren’t even aware of. They shielded you, defended you, and provided for you even when you didn’t understand why.
God does the same for us. His Word tells us:
• “The Lord is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:2)
• “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)
• “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)
God is our shield, standing between us and the enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But like any child, we must choose to stay close to our Father. A child who refuses their parent’s protection puts themselves in harm’s way. In the same way, when we stray from God’s path, we step outside of His covering.
A Call to Trust
Today, take a moment to reflect on what it truly means to be a child of God. Are you relying on Him fully? Are you allowing Him to guide your steps, provide for you, and protect you?
God has already made a way for you—a path that is safe, secure, and filled with His presence. All He asks is that you trust Him, follow Him, and rest in the knowledge that He knows best.
Choose today to walk in faith as His beloved child. Step into His protection, trust in His provision, and rest in His love. He is your Father—will you trust Him?
