Life can feel like it’s spiraling out of control. The twists and turns seem relentless, leaving you wondering how much more you can handle before it all comes crashing down. Have you ever felt like this? Maybe you feel like this right now. When everything is going wrong, when it feels like your well-being is on the brink of collapse, what do you do? Where is your focus?
In times like these, it’s easy to let fear take the wheel. Fear comes naturally—it sneaks in and consumes us without effort. But as believers, we’re not called to live in fear. Instead, we’re encouraged to choose faith over fear. It’s not always easy; faith requires intention. It requires us to shift our focus away from the chaos and onto Jesus. But when we choose faith, God meets us in the storm and gives us something incredible: His peace.
Psalm 29:11 reminds us that God gives strength to His people and blesses them with peace. This peace isn’t a promise to remove the storm; it’s a promise to sustain us through it. Whether you’re walking through a personal battle, supporting a loved one in their fight, or facing physical, mental, or medical challenges, God’s peace is always available. It doesn’t eliminate the storm, but it steadies your heart and helps you rise above it.
How are you handling life’s storms? Are you choosing faith over fear, or are you letting the storm control you? When fear takes hold, it tosses us like a ship in rough seas, leaving us disoriented and desperate. But when we keep our eyes on Jesus, something miraculous happens—we find hope and stability, even in the midst of chaos.
The story of Peter walking on water beautifully illustrates this truth. In Matthew 14:22-33, Peter saw Jesus walking on the stormy sea and, with faith, stepped out of the boat to meet Him. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he walked on the water, defying the storm that raged around him. But the moment Peter shifted his focus to the wind and waves, fear crept in. He began to sink, overwhelmed by the storm.
Yet even in his fear, Peter did something crucial—he cried out to Jesus for help. Jesus immediately reached out, grabbed Peter’s hand, and pulled him up. Once Peter’s focus returned to Jesus, he was able to rise above the storm once more. This story reminds us that when we fix our eyes on Jesus, we can walk on top of the very thing that threatens to consume us. It’s only when we let fear take over and lose sight of Him that we begin to sink.
So, I ask you again: How are you responding to the storms in your life? Are you letting fear dictate your steps, or are you keeping your eyes on Jesus?
If you’ve been overwhelmed, it’s not too late to shift your focus. Just like Peter, cry out to Jesus, and He will reach out His hand to you. Choose faith over fear, and let His peace steady your heart.
Today, make the choice to step out of the boat and trust Jesus. Take your eyes off the wind and waves, and fix them on the One who has the power to calm the storm. Trust Him to guide you, strengthen you, and fill you with His peace. Will you choose to walk with Him? Will you choose to rise above the storm instead of letting it consume you? He’s waiting for you, hand outstretched, ready to pull you up. Take His hand and discover the peace that only comes from keeping your focus on Him.
