What are you Hungry for??

Have you ever been so hungry you felt like you could eat a horse? I know I have. After a long day at work, I’ve come home countless times, opened the fridge, and grabbed whatever I could find to make a meal—even if the ingredients didn’t really go together. When you’re starving, you’ll throw anything together just to satisfy the gnawing hunger and get your mind to focus again.

Physical hunger is hard to ignore, but have you ever thought about the hunger in your soul? Just like our bodies need food to survive, our souls need nourishment too. Yet, so often, when we feel that deeper hunger, we try to feed it with things that can never truly satisfy us. The Bible warns us about this: “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance” (Isaiah 55:2).

Instead of seeking God, we often turn to worldly distractions. We fill our time with social media, entertainment, and material things, hoping they’ll ease the emptiness we feel. But Jesus Himself reminds us that these things will never fill us: “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you” (John 6:27).

As believers, our souls are connected to the Spirit of God, and they hunger for the relationship we were created to have with Him. Scripture tells us, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). This hunger isn’t for more possessions or fleeting pleasures; it’s for the presence of Jesus, the Bread of Life who sustains us: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).

Only through pursuing a closer relationship with Jesus—through prayer, studying His Word, and walking in His ways—can we satisfy the deepest hunger of our souls. Psalm 107:9 declares, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.”

So, what are you hungry for? Are you feeding your soul with temporary things that leave you empty, or are you seeking the eternal satisfaction that only Jesus can give? Turn to Him today, and let Him fill your soul with the sustenance it truly needs.
